Capitol Hemp opened in the Adams Morgan neighborhood of Washington DC. There was much anticipation. That is to say, there hadn’t been a head shop connected with the cannabis culture in the area, for at least 15 years.
It was the 1st store to open up since the time of cannabis prohibition. The interior was constructed with hemp fiber board procured from China. It is worthy of noting that it was ILLEGAL to grow hemp in the USA at that time.
Firstly, Capitol Hemp’s concept was a hemp-based product store in the front. Secondly, if you were 21, you could go to the special “back room” filled with water-pipes,vaporizers, papers etc.
The store was successful and became the premier “headshop” for the DMV area. A 2nd location was added in the Chinatown area of Washington DC.
However, with 2 locations and growing loyal clientele, a 3rd location was being discussed…
